Accelerated Orthodontics Q & A

What is accelerated orthodontics?

Accelerated orthodontics allows you to straighten your teeth and perfect your bite with a quicker, more accelerated solution. In many cases, accelerated orthodontics with the Propel platform can reduce the amount of time you need to wear braces by more than 50%, as compared to traditional braces or Invisalign®.

Accelerated orthodontics with Propel involves using an Alveocentesis™ procedure to make traditional braces and even Invisalign more efficient. Alveocentesis triggers the production of bone tissue in your jaw bone, so as your teeth shift into proper alignment, the new bone growth holds teeth in place.

This new bone tissue adjusts better to teeth shifting, which is important for adults who have older bone tissue that’s more resistant to teeth shifting. Propel accelerated orthodontics can be combined with any braces treatment plan.

How does accelerated orthodontics work?

The Propel accelerated orthodontics device creates micro-osteoperforations in your gum tissue, which triggers an inflammatory response and increased blood flow to the area. This specialized tool truly harnesses your body’s ability to heal itself and promotes the development of tissue and bone remodeling.

During your Propel accelerated orthodontics treatment at Georgetown Orthodontics, you rinse your mouth with a specialized sterilizing solution. Dr. Oliver then numbs your gums to ensure you’re entirely comfortable.

She uses the Propel tool to make tiny puncture wounds in your gums at a depth of 3, 5, or 7 millimeters, depending on your treatment area. It’s common to make one to three micro-osteoperforations in each targeted area.

You may be able to achieve your desired results with a single Propel accelerated orthodontics session. But if you have a more complex case, Dr. Oliver could recommend several treatments every six to eight weeks.

Am I a candidate for accelerated orthodontics?
