Orthodontics and COVID-19: What You Should Know

It’s hard to believe it’s been just months since COVID-19 started to reshape all of our lives. For many of us, it feels like we’ve been dealing with this pandemic and its widespread effects for ages. As we all work to keep ourselves and others safe, many facets of our lives have shifted.

That’s as true for our team at Georgetown Orthodontics as it is for anyone else. Maya Oliver, DDS, and our staff are making changes and enacting measures to keep ourselves and our community in Washington, DC, safe.

As we shift the way we work, we know that many of our patients have questions about how COVID-19 impacts their orthodontic care. Here’s a quick guide to keep you informed.

Pressing pause on nonessential care

Per guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the American Association of Orthodontists®, and many other trusted sources, we’ve pressed pause on all nonessential care at our office. We’re doing this to protect our patients and our employees, as well as to preserve personal protective equipment (PPE) for health care workers on the front lines of the pandemic.

We look forward to helping you move toward your smile goals when we’ve all weathered this storm. Our team will reschedule any nonessential appointments for a later date when we can more safely serve you.

We’ll also keep you informed about our plans to reopen for nonessential care. Keep an eye on our blog and don’t hesitate to call our office for updates.

Answers to your orthodontic questions and ongoing support

We encourage you to stay safe and informed through this season. The CDC’s COVID-19 webpage has a wealth of information you can use to protect yourself or to take the necessary steps if you’re feeling unwell.

Dr. Oliver and our entire team at Georgetown Orthodontics want to be here for you during this unprecedented time, too. We know that sometimes questions arise that just can’t wait. If you want to call and discuss a current or planned treatment with us, please feel free.

Similarly, if you’re having a problem with your braces, you lost your retainer, or you have another pressing orthodontic matter, don’t wait to call our office. We work with you to get you the care you need without exposing you to any unnecessary health risks.

As always, please don’t hesitate to call our office with any questions you may have. Once our office reopens fully, we invite you to book a visit online so Dr. Oliver and our Georgetown Orthodontics team can help you move toward your smile goals.
