Everything You Should Know About Accelerated Orthodontics

No one wants to spend more time in braces than they have to. And even with InvisalignⓇ, a much more discreet way to straighten your teeth, you still want to reach your perfect smile as quickly as possible.

Fortunately, Dr. Maya Oliver offers specialized treatment to deliver faster-than-expected results. At Georgetown Orthodontics in Washington, DC, she provides accelerated orthodontics treatment. With this minor procedure, you may be able to slash your time in braces by many months to years

Accelerated orthodontics works with traditional braces or Invisalign and can help people of all ages reach their smile goals faster. If your child is in braces, consider accelerated orthodontics to help them get their braces off more quickly.

How accelerated orthodontics works

If you choose accelerated orthodontics, first you schedule an appointment with Dr. Oliver at Georgetown Orthodontics. Then, she performs a procedure called Alveocentesis™ using the Propel® Orthodontics system.

This minor procedure usually causes about the same amount of discomfort as your routine teeth cleaning. Dr. Oliver numbs you beforehand to make sure you’re completely comfortable.

During your Alveocentesis treatment, Dr. Oliver creates extremely small (3-7 mm deep) perforations in your gum tissue. These dental dimples around your teeth trigger your body’s healing response, helping increase blood flow to the area while supporting bone and tissue remodeling.

Dr. Oliver can create as many of these dental dimples as is necessary to help you achieve your ideal orthodontic result in the shortest time possible.

All told, this in-office treatment helps you to see results from your braces or Invisalign much more quickly than you would otherwise. In many cases, accelerated orthodontics can shorten your treatment time by 50% or more.

Deciding if accelerated orthodontics is right for you

If you want to see faster results for yourself or your child, ask Dr. Oliver about accelerated orthodontics. A single treatment may be enough to slash your treatment period.

If you’re looking at an extensive time in braces or wearing Invisalign, though, Dr. Oliver may recommend repeat accelerated orthodontics treatment every 6-8 weeks. Her goal is to help you get your perfect smile as quickly as possible without compromising the longevity or quality of your results.

Even if you already have braces, or your child does, it’s not too late to start accelerated orthodontics treatment to shorten your treatment time. Accelerated orthodontics are effective when applied before braces or Invisalign treatment is started or during the course of treatment.
